The great work of Children’s Hospice South West
For more than 25 years Children’s Hospice South West has been caring for children with life-threatening conditions by providing children’s hospice and professional family support services.
We’ve taken a look at the great work they’re doing in our latest blog.
Children’s Hospice South West aims to make the most of short and precious lives through the provision of the best possible hospice care for children and young people with life-limiting conditions.
The care offered at each of their three hospices is not just about medical and nursing support for sick children but enriching lives of the children and their whole family.
They provide care and support to families living in the South West, who have children with life-limiting conditions.
This care includes:
- specialist palliative care,
- respite for the whole family
- a sibling service for brothers and sisters
- emergency support
- end of life care and a bereavement service for as long as is needed
- referrals are welcome from anyone
CHSW is the only children’s hospice in the South West. It costs around £11million to run the three hospices each year and relies almost entirely on voluntary contributions.
On average, children’s hospices in the UK receive 17 per cent of their funding from the Government, less than a fifth of their expenditure. (Hospice UK, 2017)
Their services are free to every family that needs them.
Charity shops
Willow Brook is proud to host a Children’s Hospice South West shop.
Because they’ve been overwhelmed with kind donations, they ask that prior to taking your donations in, please do contact them first, particularly if you have a large donation. Until further notice they are still not able to carry out home collections.
As well as donating you can also volunteer to help out at their shop at the Willow Brook Centre.
Opening hours
Monday – Saturday: 9.00am to 5.00pm
Normal Sunday opening hours are 10.00am – 4.00pm, but these can vary, so please phone the shop before making a special trip.
