Volunteering with CHSW

Its National volunteering week (1st – 6th June) and to celebrate we have been speaking with the volunteers at Children’s Hospice South West’s to find out what they like about volunteering.

Jill – I’ve been volunteering at CHSW charity shop ever since it opened in August 2019. I help with sorting donations, pricing, the till and displaying the stock in the shop. Its a fun and very sociable place to volunteer and a fantastic charity to donate your time to.

Carolyn – In January 2022, I became a volunteer in the CHSW shop in Bradley Stoke. Since then I have been involved in most aspects of the general day to day duties necessary to help the shop run smoothly. Its varied and interesting and I really enjoy working with other volunteers, its very social, and great to know that you are helping a very worthy cause.

CHSW about their volunteers:

‘Our wonderful volunteers really are our stars and we couldn’t do what we do without them. They support us in many ways and help to make the world of difference to our families. It is through the time and care of ordinary people that we can do extraordinary things.’

All volunteers have their own motivations for being part of the Children’s Hospice South West team but here are just a few reasons why being a volunteer is so great:

  • A chance to work in a friendly team and make new friends
  • The opportunity to make an invaluable contribution to our work
  • The time to help you develop your confidence and communication skills
  • The ability to gain work experience, develop your CV and to learn new skills
  • The potential of gaining a national recognized qualification (NVQ) and Duke of Edinburgh
  • The opportunity to gain valuable retail experience

Previous experience would be an advantage but isn’t essential as we will provide you with any necessary training and the chance to get involved in a number of different activities.

CHSW Bradley Stoke are looking for more volunteers so why not volunteer some of your time and share your skills to help make the most of short and precious lives. Every hour you can give will make a difference to families facing an uncertain future. For more information and to register your interest you can call Glynnis on 01454 612622 or pop into store to speak with her.
